If you don’t have a dishwasher or a helpful other half, there’s no reason why the washing up should be a time consuming chore! Need to go old skool? Here’s how to get the washing up done in as little time as possible…
Step 1 – Scrape
Scrape off as much food debris as you can, this will make the actual washing up easier and will also stop you clogging up your sink! Give each dish a quick rinse with hot water before stacking at the side of the sink ready for washing.
Step 2 – Soak
Fill really grimey items such as pans with hot water and put them to one side to soak. Leaving for a few minutes in hot soapy water really helps remove grime, and means when you’re actually washing up any dirt or leftovers will just slide away.
Step 3 – Clear
Make sure your sink is clean before you start. Using a plastic washing up bowl uses less water and helps to protect items from the sink’s hard surfaces. If you don’t have a double sink, the gap between the bowl and the sink means you can still use the hot tap for rinsing.
Step 4 – Rinse and Clean
Rinse and clean each item in clean hot soapy water as you go along, then once clean put it on a rack to drain whilst you continue washing up.
Step 5 – Dry
Using a clean tea-towel, dry each item from the rack and put it away.
And relax, go put your feet up, you deserve it…
